SUMMARY:Punch Card Machine Demo
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder about the history of the punchcard? \nThe punchcard exhibit starts with a Jacquard Loom\, one of the earliest uses of punched cards\, which helped to make woven fabric more affordable. Herman Hollerith’s invention of electromechanical processing of cards tabulated data for the 1890 census. The IBM family of punch card machines was used for data processing and record-keeping across many industries and academia. Punched cards were even used for matchmaking at the University of Iowa in 1963! \nCome learn more about this history and punch your own souvenir card on an original IBM 029 to take home during the demo. \nSaturday\, 2 – 4 PM\, free with museum membership or admission.

SUMMARY:Talking Tech - Sven Olensky - AI 101
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Intelligence is everywhere!  We hear about it on the news.  It’s in our phones.  Our kids are using it in school. \nIt seems like a brand new idea\, but AI dates back to the 1950s.  So why is it so common now?  How did we get here?  Where are we going with it?  Find out from our March speaker\, Sven Olensky.  Sven works with AI as part of his day to day work at the Federal Reserve. \nSven D. Olensky is a seasoned Enterprise Security Architect with over three decades of experience in technology and cybersecurity. For the past decade\, he has served at the Federal Reserve\, leading initiatives in AI Security\, Zero Trust\, and cloud security to ensure the resilience of critical systems processing over $5 trillion daily. He develops innovative\, context-aware solutions for complex challenges\, including secure AI standards and advanced threat intelligence frameworks. \nIn his presentation\, Sven will tell us about AI in a historical context giving insights into how AI evolved from early systems like ELIZA into the ubiquitous tool we see everywhere today.  He’ll discuss some of the challenges and opportunities AI gives us along with how its role will change as we move into the future. \nStill working out how to make the most of AI?  Don’t miss the practical demonstration and gain some resources for making AI work for you. \nTalking Tech is Saturday\, March 15th at 2:00 PM.  It is free for members or with museum admission.
