The amazing flight of Apollo 8 took place at Christmas time in 1968. It was a turbulent time in the United States and NASA was racing with the Russians to land a man on the Moon by the end of the decade. The bold mission yielded several firsts and became an icon for the 1960s.  The mission’s crew being named Time Magazine’s “Men of the Year” for 1968.
